At this time, I’m only supervising and mentoring within my practice.

Hi, I'm Ada. I provide supervision for counseling professionals who have graduated from a master's-level counseling program and are acquiring hours for licensure.

What is supervision?

If you're a post-graduate student working toward your Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT), Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or Social Worker (LICSW/LASW) licensure, you'll need to fulfill a number of requirements, one of which includes getting sufficient supervision hours. These hours can be in the form of individual, duo or group supervision (LMFT/LICSW/LASW).

Why am I providing supervision?

I came from a family where my mom was an educator and my dad liked to coach and supervise. I continue to learn from them, and this has contributed to my desire to teach and mentor. Coinciding with the start of my private practice is the opportunity to see other therapists grow as they work toward state licensure and beyond. I'm an American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) approved supervisor and a WA State Approved Supervisor.

What's the investment?

My fees are:

  • $165 for 55-min of one-on-one supervision

  • $120 per person for 85-min of one-on-two supervision

  • $180 per person for 3-hours of group supervision with 3-6 supervisees (LMFT/LICSW/LASW)

If less time is needed for one-on-two or group supervision, the cost will be prorated based on time spent.

Where I've been

I graduated from Seattle Pacific University's Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) program in 2005. I also completed their Medical Family Therapy (MedFT) certificate program studying the bio-psycho-social needs of patients suffering from chronic illnesses. As a part of that program, I interned at EvergreenHealth's radiation oncology department, and I have a particular interest in working with those touched by cancer.

Since SPU, I worked 5+ years in community mental health, namely at Community Psychiatric Clinic as a Child and Family Therapist. I also pioneered the mental health program at Puget Sound Christian Clinic (formerly Haller Lake Christian Health Clinic) and volunteered there as a Mental Health Counselor for 3.5 years. I became licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in 2008. I then worked 4+ years at Kaiser Permanente (formerly Group Health) as a Masters Level Therapist in Behavioral Health Services, before transitioning into private practice in Redmond in 2015. 1.5 years into a solo practice, I began making plans to grow into a group practice.

In the last 15+ years, I've become familiar with King County resources and the demand of agency work and caseload. I've also gained experience in working in a HMO and the benefits and challenges of integrated care. Since being on my own, I continue to set goals on ways to build a successful practice, now with three clinicians. I do love the business side of private practice!

Supervision-wise, I provided practicum supervision/co-supervision to students in the MFT program at my alma mater, SPU. I was an offsite supervisor for a Capella University MFT student while she interned at a CMH agency. I continue to supervise associates accruing hours for licensure.

What am I up to?

When I'm not seeing clients or working on my business, I'm networking and inviting myself as a guest speaker on private practice podcasts. I also enjoy giving presentations related to the business of private practice and tips around healthy relating. As a side gig, I contracted with Cancer Lifeline to facilitate a breast cancer support group and gave presentations about “Living with the Fear of Cancer Recurrence.” I’ve also spoken at Overlake’s Survivorship Event on “6 Tips to Increase Emotional Resilience.”

I was an adjunct professor at SPU and I taught classes on “The MFT in Professional/Private Practice” and “Marketing your Practice to Physicians and Related Healthcare Professionals”. I’ve also taught “Motivational Interviewing to Improve Patient and Family Health” and have guest spoken in various MFT and MedFT classes.

After a lot of legwork, I’ve expanded my solo practice and hired my first W-2 employee in the spring of 2018. In the age of leveling up, we’ll remain a small and intentional practice.

My CEU's

Clinically, I've received extensive training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) in helping kids and their families resolve trauma. I then went on to learn Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for the treatment of adults who have been through trauma. In recent years, I was foundationally trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) by Marsha Linehan's lab, and was a team lead for the DBT program at Kaiser. I also grew fond of Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) and learned a lot at the founder's boot camp. I have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Emotionally Focused Therapy for Individuals (EFIT).

While not getting credit for it, I stay up-to-date on the business of private practice, what makes a good leader, how to thrive post-pandemic, and ways to make the practice of therapy more inclusive, diverse and equitable.

Where have you been?

I'd love to hear your story and grow with you!
